Capacity Building for Integrated Water Resources Management
 

A study on “Situational Analysis of Capacity Building needs for IWRM in South Asia” was carried out by BCAS (as Cap-Net Secretariat in Bangladesh). UNESCO in collaboration with CapNet decided to carry out this study in 4 countries in South Asia namely Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka

A study on Situational Analysis of Capacity Building needs for IWRM in South Asia” was carried out by BCAS (as Cap-Net Secretariat in Bangladesh). UNESCO in collaboration with CapNet decided to carry out this study in 4 countries in South Asia namely Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The main focus of the study was to identify and assess the existing capacity, weaknesses and opportunities in the water sector. BCAS further assigned Cap-Net Country Coordinators of Bangladesh, Srilanka and Nepal and ResNet Coordinator of India to prepare their respective country assessment report. The Bangladesh Country Report was prepared under the guidance and with contribution from Dr Samsul Huda, Former Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, GoB. Some of the recommendations presented in the paper are:

  • Policy Analysis in the context of IWRM
  • Awareness, Campaign and Advocacy on IWRM concepts, Principles and Methods                                                               
  • Capacity Building in Education and Training
  • Capacity Building Needs for Community Resource Management and Access to Water Bodies                                                                
  • Capacity Building in Understanding and Assessing Indigenous Knowledge
  • Capacity Building in Networking                                                   
  • Water Pollution Management                                                        
  • Health, Sanitation and Hygiene                                                    
  • Climate Change, Extreme Weather Events and Adaptation Activities
  • Increasing Water Efficiency and Reducing Waste                         
  • Build on Existing Capacity and Efforts
